🐞 My Nature Garden

Can I compost straight on the beds?

Composting on the beds. Lay the organic matter straight on the beds instead of a heap: in autumn, kitchen peelings, cut cover crops, leaves and grass under a layer of straw or old hay; worms and soil life turn it into compost by spring. Count 25 litres of organic matter per m² a year, 50 under hungry crops — the plan works it out for your beds. Sow small seeds in spring into a strip of soil or a little sieved compost; plant seedlings straight through the mulch. Don't put weeds with seeds or diseased plants on the beds.
