How to make a pond for wildlife?
A small pond brings frogs, dragonflies, birds and hedgehogs that eat pests. Dig it with steps: a deep part of about 1–1.2 m so it doesn't freeze or overheat, shelves at 20–40 cm for marsh plants and one gentle muddy shore so animals can climb out. Lay a liner on sand or old carpet, cover its edges with stones, plant reeds, irises and water plants, and leave a pile of brushwood and stones nearby. Mosquitoes are no problem: dragonfly larvae, water beetles and newts eat their larvae. Against algae, shade part of the surface with plants and top up with rainwater, not tap water. Draw the pond on the plot drawing.
