How to get rid of weeds without chemicals?
Don't rush to sow into cold soil. Prepare the bed, loosen it 2–3 cm deep and wait 1–2 weeks: the weed seeds wake up and sprout. Cut them off shallowly with a flat hoe without turning the soil, and sow straight away — the crop starts ahead of the weeds. The Siberian farmer T. S. Maltsev worked this way: he sowed after the main flush of weeds and destroyed it just before sowing. After every heavy rain, break the crust 2–3 cm deep: this keeps the moisture in the soil. Then keep the soil under mulch or a cover crop — bare soil is the first to fill with weeds. Wear out perennial weeds (thistle, couch grass) by cutting them often: without leaves the roots weaken.
